School Holidays Made Easy – Parent Tips
Recently, we asked parents for their best tips for the school holidays.
Whether you’re Team ‘Keep Them Busy’ or Team ‘Downtime and Rest’ during the break, a little prep now can go a long way later. Your future self will thank you!
Ready to make the end-of-term chaos a bit smoother? Check out these simple, time-saving tips!
Kylie’s tip
Wash school bags over the holiday period to remove any odours ready for the next term. Also pre-order lunches with Flexischools for the Mondays, knowing weekend sport is up and in full swing this term.
Anna-Leise's tip
During school holidays, throw everything in the washing machine. Lunchbox, bag, shoes, uniforms. Store them all together and when the first day of school starts you will know where everything is (no running around like a headless chook) and will be clean and fresh for your little one to tackle the new term.
Georgia’s tip
We like to write a short letter to your "future you" at the end of the term. What are you hoping to achieve, learn, or experience and then seal it and open it at the end of the term to reflect. It's fun to read the letter each new term.
Ernest’s tip
Make sure last term’s lunchbox isn’t still in school bag!
Natalie’s tip
During the holidays, to keep the kids busy, we bake and make slices and snacks to freeze so we have plenty of lunch box fillers for when school returns.
Caroline’s tip
If you've been on holiday, keep note of any new foods the kids have tried and enjoyed, to add some variety to the school lunches in the new term.
Lisa’s tip
Clean out the kids' wardrobe and make sure that all uniforms still fit. The school uniforms have their own drawer. I make sure this is re-organised each holiday - no more arguing that they can't find a uniform.
Joanne’s tip
As the term ends, be sure to empty and clean school bags and lunch boxes. Check whether any assignments or homework are due over the break. If a new uniform is needed, make sure it fits properly and is ready for the start of next term.
Thanks again to our parents who took the time to share their ideas - and keep your eyes peeled for more tips!
